Our DIY pet bed cushion

Why should you buy a pet bed when you can offer your small friend a DIY bed cushion with little effort and at low cost?
This is what I thought and finally decided to give it a try and create two bed cushions for my beloved Rallou (yes, she is spoiled and she has two beds: one in the living room and one in our bedroom!).

Here is what you'll need:

  • a fleece blanket (cost me 4 euros)
  • a cushion in your desired size (bought mine from IKEA for 5 euros)
  • yarn
  • thread
  • a pair of scissors
  • sewing needles
  • some colorful buttons

Step 1
Fold blanket in half, put the pillow on it so as to measure its size and cut the fabric using your scissors. Don't worry, you don't have to be accurate. Remember, it's better to leave some extra fabric, in order to ease the sewing process afterwards.

Step 2
One part of the blanket is already machine sewn; leave this as it is (it will be later used as the opening part of the pillow case). Then sew around the rest of the sides of the folded blanket, using yarn and a large needle.

Step 3
Open as many button holes as you wish by cutting a simple slot (I suggest you spend some minutes sewing the holes around, to prevent fabric from future fraying) and sew your buttons on the edges of the inside part of the case using thread and a fine needle.

Step 4
Your cushion case is ready! Just turn it inside out and put the pillow in!

Now your small friend can lie on a personal bed cushion. After all it was made with love and care especially for him/her!

Here you can see my dear Rallou, already enjoying her cozy new beds!

xo!
